Dear interwebs, I'm gonna
be in the Chicago Chinatown some time after 5 to wander for a while and grab something to eat. Interested? 2176493032
[profile] waltzingmatthea has a question, and since I live 2 1/2 hours south of Chicago, any of my Chi-town friends wanna help her out?

"Oh, and random off-topic question...you live in Chicago/that general area, right? I'm going there this weekend for a conference, and I need a recommendation for a bookstore/coffee place/cool hangout in which to kill 6 to 8 hours on Sunday afternoon. Preferably near either Loyola University or O'Hare airport. Help a fellow fuckbrain out?"

ALSO: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was what it needed to be.
Okay, yeah, so I'm really getting into this whole drawing characters for people. I've already got two more that I'm sketching ideas for. Sure, one of them is a made-up character, but it's funny enough that I'm gonna do it. Feel free to add more to the list.

CURRENT LIST OF HEROES / VILLAINS I'VE DRAWN:

Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse for [livejournal.com profile] grafunkel
Howard the Duck for [livejournal.com profile] ericfmyers
Daleks for [livejournal.com profile] himynameisjamie

I also have some more Five Questions for you later today.

For now, enjoy some big-but-cool old photos from the University of Illinois Library's digitized-book-of-the-week.

Glimpses of the World's fair. A selection of gems of the White City seen through a camera )

The entirety of the book can be found here.

Smooches,

A) Am in Chicago.
     Saturday is my birthday.
Should I go out somewhere on Sat. night, and if so where, and if so, who'll show up?
I'll probably be free around 10:30 or 11:00 pm.
We're in Chicago proper, so no freaking Mokena hot-spots or anything.

B) [profile] iamangelachase is awesome. You know how often I ask a certain question about a certain type of clothing? Well, she drew it for me.

Just once, when I'm awake at 4:30 a.m. in Chicago, I'd like to be hanging out on a porch or in an apartment with the windows open, drinking and listening to the birds wake up, instead of trying not to rouse the sleeping people in the house.

Sometimes insomnia is fabulous, other times it feels like a waste...

b
Am in Luddite Land area of Chicago.
May not have The Interwebs again until Sunday.

Feels like it's 1998 again.

*smooches*

b
On Saturday, Sara's family arranged to get me in to see a traveling art exhibition at Columbia College in Chicago called Girl Power! Shojo Manga!

Holy shit, was it incredible. It had ORIGINAL art from Osamu Tezuka to CLAMP represented.
Dead brilliant.

We got to go in, even though it wasn't open, because Sara's mother and stepfather told them I was "in the business"--i.e. editing for DrMaster and writing articles for Shonen Jump. As such, there was nobody in there while we were, so I busted out my camera.

The collection of photos I took are over here in a set at Flickr. For the best view, obviously, click on ALL SIZES and then choose ORIGINAL.

Damn. It was a small room, yet we spent 50 minutes in there...

Tee-hee...

It's not a REAL Bukowski book... )

And, for no reason at all beyond following up on my recent Transformers remix kick:

"Unicron's Theme (Techno Remix 2000) - Unknown Artist

I'll finish the Sir Reginald tale soon, I hope. The ending keep rewriting itself.

b
Was up until about 3:30 am last night.

Cleaned up the latest draft of the first few pages of LAST SHOT for Karl, so we can see if it's more dynamic now.

In 20 minutes, will drive the 2 1/2 hours north to Chicago to visit Sara's family and see RIGOLETTO.
Well, Sara will probably drive.

That's it.

I'm sleepy, and will probably plot more Mo-Lan Devils stuff in the car, maybe do the next few pages of LAST SHOT, and then fall asleep.

Smooches,

b

I had never actually met [livejournal.com profile] city_of_dis before today. Well, I’m sure I’ve met him several times, since I saw his play Jupiter’s Only Moon almost a decade ago, and he knew my dear friend and former roommate Clarissa Novales, and I just know that our paths have crossed before, but today was the first time I could look him square in the eyes and say “You’re the man now, dawg!”

Okay, I didn’t actually say that. I promise. When I was at the gas station four blocks from my house, though, and heard a firm yet kind voice shout “benjamin sTone!” and I turned to see that sexy face and fabulous red and blue anime hair, I must admit that I shouted “Living fuck!” and pointed at him as though he had a remora stuck to his cheek.

That was an ugly sentence, and I’m going to lock it in the basement again.

In any event, it was terribly fun. I have no sense of shame or embarassment, I don't think he does, either, or he would've been terrified by my public shouting of obscenties. “I’m Marc-Anthony Macon,” he said, as though I somehow wouldn’t have recognized his terribly recognizable face. I fear that, in the next moment, I may have violated his personal space. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall that he’s not big on things like hugs and such from people he doesn’t know. If so, then my use-the-handshake-to-pull-the-person-into-a-hug move may have been unwelcome.

If so, M-AM, then I apologize.

Especially since I then said something about “parading him around” and introduced him to Sara. There was a shared “I think I used to know you at one point” moment between the two of them, and a brief discussion of road trips. [livejournal.com profile] city_of_dis is roadtripping to New Mexico with a friend, and he breathlessly told us of how he’s never seen a desert before. We were on our way to Chicago to deliver a table, visit Sara’s family, and tomorrow we’re going to Chinatown to shop and eat and I’m doing some work on Sara's parents’ computer.

Chinatown notwithstanding, I think New Mexico wins.

It’s was really nice, though, to have on of those “I only know you, really, through LJ, and now we’ve run into each other while both on our way out of town and it’s awesome” moments. Thanks, M-AM. We put the mix CD you gave me (* See Below) in the player and listened to it on the way to Chi-town.

UNRELATED: I have two stories that I desperately want to finish. Can somebody ask life to back the fuck up for a bit? Please. I'm tired of the role I've had for the last few weeks, that of beleagured guy who claims he writes but doesn't actually do it. I do write. I swear. Ask around. Rummage through the LJ. Just...

Just bring me some freaking booze. And not the pale, weak beer they have in the fridge here.
