Here it is. Here’s The Wizard’s Lesson in its entirety.

I got it done in less than a year, but I wish I’d gotten it done faster. As time goes by my productivity increases, so my next projects should go faster.

You’ll see them soon enough. This post is about this comic right here.

Sometimes I worry that I’ve been listening to too much Goon Show [autoplay warning] and general British radio comedy. Then I remember what the Tick had to say about moderation:

“Always remember: less is less, more is more. More is better, and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it’s just about right.”

After I finish this folk tale comic, expect more one-shots and proper blog posts, some of which may not even have art! GASP! I’ve got a new camera–an Olympus XZ-2 that Nadja found for about 60% off–so I’ll be doing photos again as well.

Anyroad, here’s a nice splash page to click on and make huge and be all WHOA YOU FUCKED UP TZU CH’UN and next week? The whole thing rolls up and finishes, and then…the lesson?

A chill page this week, but perhaps a bit ominous. I think it will take about three more postings to finish this bad boy off.

On the last day, I’ll give you a huge post with everything to date.

For now, please to enjoy wedded bliss:

S’up, kids?

I’m tired of waiting until the last minute to do the actual writy-bit of my entries, so I’m actually writing this the night before.

I haven’t been sticking to my Ten Minutes A Day rule with my art, justifying the many hours I spend on them anyway as being justified. This is bullshit, amirite*?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m having fun with the Artisan Pony Project and the fabulous guest artists that I’ve gotten so far, but I feel like I’ve been dropping-out of the one-page-funny comics, focusing perhaps too much on being Srs with my art. Starting again tonight, ten minutes every day.

I should also get back to a story or two that I was briefly working on. And the dishes. Nadja‘s sleeping, though, so I shouldn’t do the latter right now. Our bedroom and kitchen are only separated by a curtain.

We have been having preposterous amounts of fun lately, including the great success that was the Kung Fu and Kasseroles Party. Great friends, and casseroles and covered dishes were consumed in large quantities.

Here are trailers for the movies that ran all night:

Living Room TV:

The Magnificent Butcher  (Sammo Hung at his best), The Tai Chi Master  (A 90s Wire-Fu classic), 36th Chamber of Shaolin (Because Gordon Liu).

Laptop in Library:

Duel of the Tough twice (good fights, a film by Godfrey Ho) and The Holy Flame of the Martial World  (a truly WUT film in so many ways).

Netbook Opposite the Toilet:

The Fearless Hyena on repeat (a personal favorite, my first Chan kung fu film).

Anyroad, welcome to the SECOND most bizarre part of The Wizard’s Lesson:

Hey kids!

As some of you may know, my brain doesn’t always get words right. It’s always been a problem with my gray matter, but the older I get, the more my brain misfires and makes me sound like I’m having a stroke.

I don’t always keep track of them, but I’m starting to, and I’m going to start drawing as many of them as I can. The first one was a misfire while talking to Nadja about a recipe I was going to make with a number of onions, which aren’t Nadja’s stomach’s favorite if they’re not very cooked. I was asking about a change I could make.

Please enjoy my first I Don’t Words Talk Right:

Doing a completed drawing every few days isn’t exactly #Inktober, but #Drawtober works just fine with me.

Tomorrow you might have the horrifyingly blood-soaked very strange next bit of The Wizard’s Lesson as well as a bit about the best new horror movie I’ve seen in ages.

Nadja and I were going to participate in #Inktober, but since so much of my art is based on the structure and not the inking itself, we’re just sorta doing #Drawtober.

I did two last night to catchup. The first one is a throwaway that was inspired by Nadja telling me to draw “a guy smashing a city.”

The second is the penultimate one in my recent and confusing series of me being abused by gravity and my own letters.

I’ve got very little else, because I had an entry planned for writing and then a filling tore out of the middle of a tooth, so now I’m hurty and about to go to the dentist.

Anyroad, here you go. The Wizard’s Lesson resumes next week, and the daily draws will continue.

Parts Two and Three

Parts Four and Five

Part Six

Part Seven

Part Eight

And now…

Wizards Lesson Part Nine

Nadja has been working on some costumes for Carnivale Debauche recently, so we put on movies in the background.

We saw Raiders of the Lost Ark, one of the three Indiana Jones movies. THREE, YOU BASTARDS!

We then did Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, the most regrettably plotless of all the Harry Potter films. I love the Dementors so much, but there’s a whole lot of not a lot going on in the movie.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home still stands up. The jokes are hilarious, and for the love of god, it really doesn’t matter why there’s a whale probe (not that kind, pervert) or why their “S’up, fuckers?” message destroys starships and planets. The meat of the movie is the fun acting of the cast and the ridiculous jokes. :)

The trailer for STIV:TVH is hilarious, as it’s effectively a series of clips, in order, from the film…opening scenes to the climax of the film. It’s one big spoiler.

Spoilers. Seriously.

Anyways, I have the next page of The Wizard’s Lesson scanned and ready to upload next week. Starting a one-shot tonight or tomorrow night.

Love,

A number of you haven’t been following my art for a really long time, so I feel that in the interest of full-disclosure, I should reveal the following:

My comics are not always sensitive.
They’re not always kind.
They’re occasionally TRULY filthy.
They’re not comics you’d take home to mother–although mine finds them hilarious.

I call one set of them Inappropriate Comix for a reason. If that title worries you, don’t look. You don’t have to like all my art, but I think it’s only fair that you know about this one particular aspect.

If this sort of thing isn’t for you, I have little advice to give you, save that “perhaps benchilada is not for you.”

If you’re reading this only to see things that are gonna offend you, please, for the love all of pleasurable sex, go play some adorable Pucca games or something. Otherwise, you have only yourself and your lack of self-control to blame if you get pissy.

Now lie back and think of England.

Inappropriate Comix 3

Inappropriate Comix 4

Inappropriate Comix 7 - Suggestion BoxInappropriate Comix 9 - Penis patch

Inappopriate Comix - Shitting Bricks

Inappropriate Comix Quickies - What's the difference

There, that wasn’t so b–oh, I can’t even lie about it. Either you laughed or you want to picket my home.

I’m fine with either and I will always love you.

benjamin

PS – The rest are here, although some are not-the-best quality because they were one of the first things I drew regularly.
PPS – Cats can appreciate art, too.

I’m marginally surprised that nobody seems to have found my Easter Egg in Tuesday’s comic….

In any event, today’s Fuckbrain Classic is from 8 years ago, when my OCD was far worse than it is now. While I still stick to most of the rules in this comic, I’ve been able to overcome a few of them.

This was the first Fuckbrain Comix that I’ve done using a way larger paper–11×14–and I’m well-pleased with the results. I’m using the same size for my next project–an adaptation of a wonderfully bizarre Chinese folk tale–and it’s working well for me there, too.

Much love to my sweet Robot, for it was she who convinced me to draw on nicer paper than just the stuff in the printer. (-_-;)

You’ll soon see various archives sections pop-up on the website, so keep an eye open for more posts about old comics being uploaded. Not sure if I’ll do a So You Don’t Have To archive here, but I might.

Anyroad, I hope this comic doesn’t make you feel dirty. If it does, go wash your hands.

Not that it will help.

I absolutely despise when one of my conditions rears its head while I’m doing something important. One of the most infuriating is when my OCD flips on while I’m drawing.

I tossed this off after struggling mightily on the first page of the Chinese folk tale I’m drawing as my next project. Let’s not talk about how much I did this last night:

OCD when drawing

My drawing style kind of hinges around me not taking a preposterous amount of to do it. Part of the “charm” is that there’s a spontaneity to the pieces, and that if you look carefully you can see all the mistakes I’ve tried to digitally remove. Over-thinking my art condemns me to a purgatory of questioning each pencil mark, the opposite of what I want.

So be it.

Here’s a photo of the side-entrance to Stone-Robot Enterprises for you. We don’t use it much because, a) We’re hippies, b) It’s protected by golems not created by us.
