So, I hate memes, but this isn't like most. I really enjoy what this one is making me think about.
The 5ong Meme.
The concept, passed to me by
cleanskies is as follows:
Pick five songs that you've been digging. No rules other than your own, man, if that's your bag.
So, these links should be good for a little while:
"Stuck in the 90's" - Moxy Fruvous -- I've been feeling particularly...stymied, I guess, about the U.S. government lately. The more I hear people complain, the less I see them do. People can't be arsed to
e-mail their congresspeople, let alone actually WRITE a LETTER. And so many don't even know what's going on. This song, when I first heard it in 1995, made me laugh. I hope there comes a time when it can do that again.
"Qingzang Plateau" - Lina -- An odd little Chinese folk song. I got it on a CD that Sara's brother brought back from China when they adopted Sam Qiu Chang Gorecki. Something about it makes me feel really good. And that first note, the crazy one...she pulls it off, she doesn't Mariah Carey it. It's...dunno, it pushes on my heart like it's seeing if a steak is done.
"Condition Green (Kinkyu Hasshin Remix) -- Ishida Youko -- I heart Patlabor. It's an anime from the early nineties, and it spawned three movies (the 3rd okay, the 1st really good, the 2nd infuckingcredible). I love the giant robots, but I really love that the show is first and foremost about the people
in the giant robots. Misfit cops in giant robots. The show makes me feel good, and this dance remix of one of the various opening songs makes me giggle, and wiggle my butt.
"Penny Lane" - The Beatles -- This song makes me feel like I'm in a different, more surreal version of our world, and I love things that can do that. A few weeks ago, I think I had this on repeat for about 15 listenings. Dunno, it just feels good, right? And the background Hammond-organy chords during the chorus? Heaven.
"Be My Love" - David King -- Dave wrote this song for our wedding, and it's great. Nothing like a love song about crazy people in love, as the government pursues them. Played by a lunatic. On a ukelele. We heart Dave, he's one of the coolest people we know.
So there you are.
Feel free to run the meme on your own journal, or just let me know what's pushing your buttons these days.
As for me, I'm going to write a hypershort story before bed if it kills me.
