Tee-hee...

It's not a REAL Bukowski book... )

And, for no reason at all beyond following up on my recent Transformers remix kick:

"Unicron's Theme (Techno Remix 2000) - Unknown Artist

I'll finish the Sir Reginald tale soon, I hope. The ending keep rewriting itself.

If you liked that song I just put up, you're going to love this freaking video.

Found it years ago, just thought of it again after finding that remix.

b
For some reason, I cannot get enough of this song this morning:

DJ Starscream - Transformers Theme (Decepticon Remix)

b
Who has writing in his head but work in front of him. :(
Yeah, yeah, I'm post-crazy this morning...but I think you should all go take a look at how these two entries turned out. Quite awesome, if you ask me. Both were "reader participation" and both are still open...

What does Sir Reginald look like to you?

and

Me asking what five songs you listen to as the world ends

They have dozens of replies by now, and I really find the results fascinating on each one.

Now to go do something productive with my life.

b
No ill-effects from drinking a third of a bottle of Bushmill's last night on an empty stomach
Not a fucking meme, just me asking a question, it'll take you but a moment:

The world is about to end.

You have time to play five songs.
What are they, in what order?
What do YOU listen to as the curtain descends?

If you have an extra moment, tell me why.

EDIT:Length of songs doesn't matter. If you wanna say "Devil Does Drugs" by My Life With the Thril Kill Kult (7 minutes) or Franz Schuber's "Rosamunde Overture" ('bout 10 1/2 minutes), then go for it.

ANOTHER EDIT, BECAUSE [livejournal.com profile] ronebofh and [livejournal.com profile] shimmerngspirit CAN'T LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE: If you need to imagine you are in a steel room with no door and nothing but a machine that will play five songs from the history of mankind, then do it.

b

Crap.

Just found out that on Wednesday, February 8th, Akira Ifukube died. He was 91.

Don't know who he is?

Sure you do.

He wrote this.

b
Off to go script, drink whiskey, and watch Gigan get his ass HANDED to him...
It just so happens that what is very possibly my favorite song ever is a Christmas song. Note that I said "song" and not "carol."

If the link dies, let me know, and I'll put up a new one.

"Fairytale of New York" - The Pogues

This song makes me feel everything...

b
It's snowing on my birthday...how many awesomes is that worth?

Going to see friend Dave King perform tonight in Chicago. He doesn't know we're coming. ROCKSTAR!

"And your friends grew up faster than you got successful..." - "Greetings in Braille - The Elected

b
Off for birthday Italian food and booze and music and I'm hoping I can stay up late and write instead of edit manga...
You love Dave King, you just don't know it yet.

http://www.myspace.com/dukeofuke

He wrote "Be My Love" for when Sara and I got married.

Oh, and here's a Quicktime movie of him that cracks my ass up.

b
Right, I'm off to see Tegan and Sara perform at the Canopy Club.

"My Number" - Tegan and Sara

Fun. As. Hell.

Being a music junkie, I cannot recommend LastFM enough.
I mean, damn, just look at some of my...eccentricities, shall we say? They're not terribly apparent yet...but they will be soon.
So, I hate memes, but this isn't like most. I really enjoy what this one is making me think about.
The 5ong Meme.

The concept, passed to me by [livejournal.com profile] cleanskies is as follows:

Pick five songs that you've been digging. No rules other than your own, man, if that's your bag.

So, these links should be good for a little while:

"Stuck in the 90's" - Moxy Fruvous -- I've been feeling particularly...stymied, I guess, about the U.S. government lately. The more I hear people complain, the less I see them do. People can't be arsed to e-mail their congresspeople, let alone actually WRITE a LETTER. And so many don't even know what's going on. This song, when I first heard it in 1995, made me laugh. I hope there comes a time when it can do that again.

"Qingzang Plateau" - Lina -- An odd little Chinese folk song. I got it on a CD that Sara's brother brought back from China when they adopted Sam Qiu Chang Gorecki. Something about it makes me feel really good. And that first note, the crazy one...she pulls it off, she doesn't Mariah Carey it. It's...dunno, it pushes on my heart like it's seeing if a steak is done.

"Condition Green (Kinkyu Hasshin Remix) -- Ishida Youko -- I heart Patlabor. It's an anime from the early nineties, and it spawned three movies (the 3rd okay, the 1st really good, the 2nd infuckingcredible). I love the giant robots, but I really love that the show is first and foremost about the people in the giant robots. Misfit cops in giant robots. The show makes me feel good, and this dance remix of one of the various opening songs makes me giggle, and wiggle my butt.

"Penny Lane" - The Beatles -- This song makes me feel like I'm in a different, more surreal version of our world, and I love things that can do that. A few weeks ago, I think I had this on repeat for about 15 listenings. Dunno, it just feels good, right? And the background Hammond-organy chords during the chorus? Heaven.

"Be My Love" - David King -- Dave wrote this song for our wedding, and it's great. Nothing like a love song about crazy people in love, as the government pursues them. Played by a lunatic. On a ukelele. We heart Dave, he's one of the coolest people we know.

So there you are.
Feel free to run the meme on your own journal, or just let me know what's pushing your buttons these days.

As for me, I'm going to write a hypershort story before bed if it kills me.

Current Music: "Be My Love" - David King
Current Book: Just finished Ham on Rye - Charles Bukowski...deciding what's next
Last Movie: Just bought Violent Fire: Deadly Outlaw Rekka, Dir: Takashi Miike. Love it.
Next Movie: Maybe I'll finally watch Easy Rider. Yeah, shut up.

EDIT: At some point, these links will die. Let me know if you still want 'em afterwards.

[livejournal.com profile] nhyrvana has kicked all available ass.

She's turned a majority of my first ever phone post into a techno mp3 ('cause she's a DJ with the MaDD +3kn0 5k1llz) called "Monkey and Robots."

It's fucking hysterical, and I was just dancing to it in my basement.

Talk to her or me and (provided she agrees) we can see about getting it out to you. :D
