Another 350 word article in Shonen Jump, a sequel to my first Sound Weaponry article, which the editor was awesome enough to simply title "Electric Boogaloo."

On newsstands...umm...in the next few days?
In my mailbox...today.

Next up: And article for them about XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX and a crossword, if I can figure out how to make a non-crappy one.

My second published article, in Shonen Jump again, is on newsstands and in bookstores now.

Mu-hu.
Ha-ha.

And yes, after I write a few more pages of Last Shot, then I'll be doing a skeleton of The Man Who Was Thursday in screenplay format so that I will win forever.

[livejournal.com profile] jimmahgee and I have a secret.

I am not yet at liberty to discuss it.

That is not because it involves our penii penises. Which it doesn't.

You should go check him out. Not like that. Check his LJ, and his website.
Okay, if you want to "check him out," then go for it.
But, you know...be subtle.

I need to finish a Shonen Jump article this weekend. That will make number five. I can totally call myself a "freelance writer" now.
Oh, and by next week, Norwegian Karl and I should have some samples from our comic Last Shot for you to gaze upon in awe and wonderment.

Now...to prepare to go eat eat random Chinese food. But probably not tripe. I've had enough tripe for a while.

Coming in at a swift "Nobody is stunned by this," I've completely decided to dodge grad school for Library and Information Sciences.

I got nothing against it, but with a civil service job at the University of Illinois library, articles getting published in Shonen Jump, editing manga for DrMaster, and working on my own stories/comix, there just wouldn't be time.

Well, there'd be time for grad school, but not for the stuff I really want to do with my life.

Wish me luck, kids. I've already got my running start, now I just need to figure out where to jump from.

That's a distant shot of the February (March 2006 cover date) issue of Shonen Jump, where my first ever published-for-money article appears.

The article is about Famous Lady Pirates in History, written to accompany the serialization of One-Piece, which features several lady pirates, including Nami, one of the main characters. It only clocks in at 350 words, but that's pretty-much the maximum for SJ.

I AM SO THRILLED THAT I HAVE HAD TO CHANGE MY PANTS THREE TIMES TODAY.

Behind this cut are four more pics of it, including inside shots )

The bestest part of this article? Marc W. over at Shonen Jump liked it enough that he's printing three more articles I've written for him, as well as giving me a Sooper Sekrit Projekt that I should be doing some work on this week.

So, now I actually edit manga (for DrMaster) and I write non-fiction articles for Shonen Jump and I have an awesome artist for my comic LAST SHOT...

Thanks to all of you for your support. This is just the beginning, my friends...

NOTES

Jan. 17th, 2006 10:25 am
A) New job at library started today, in which I will be doing everything I did with my old job. Bonus.
B) Sick as hell. Want booze, cannot have booze, am at work with no booze. Will have coffee slushie instead.
C) Just got MORE manga piled on me by DrMaster, which means money and 170 pages to edit by Thursday and about 110 pages left to edit in the novel they sent me. That one's due by Monday.
D) If you aren't reading [livejournal.com profile] atomic_robo--and I know you're not--then you should be. Bastards.
E) Stories are on hold until my nose stops producing toxic waste.
F) Looks like Shonen Jump will be printing two of my articles, AND I'll be working on a Topp Sekrit Projeket for them. I am The Bee's Balls(tm).
G) Where am I?

b
Took the Library Assistant exam today. Can't tell if I did really well or just okay.

My LadyPirate article was not in this month's issue of Shonen Jump. Managing Editor is still on vacation, so I don't know if it or my Sound piece will be up any time soon.

Don't feel like writing tonight.

Happy Goddamned New Year.

b
Who will still make 2006 his bitch...just not tonight. Off to Whiskeysourland.
It's been a long time since I've actually felt a New Year like this.

In theory, my first published article (non-fiction, famous female pirates) will be in the issue of Shonen Jump that comes out this week...February cover date. Plus, based on its ass-rockingnessosity, I have another one finished, potentially for the March issue.

I've kept it hush from lots of people, but at midnight tonight, I'm no longer employed by the library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, as the project I was hired for comes to an end. I have an exam on Tuesday to qualify for another position that SHOULD open up...but won't know the results for weeks, and won't know about the job for longer.

Still editing manga for DrMaster, but I have promised that "time off from work" really means "time on for writing."

I might have decided that I'm not up for grad school, prefering to shoot for library job and writing as my "real jobs." With luck and asskick, the latter will eventually be my only job.

2006 will be my bitch.

WAH!!!

Dec. 9th, 2005 12:55 am
Received, from Shonen Jump, a finished copy of what my page in the February cover-date issue (released in January, of course) will look like.

Fucking Rockstar.

I'm off to fall asleep watching kung-fu, such that its badassness can be ABSORBED into MY BRAIN.

Because we all need more BADASS KUNG FU BRAIN JUICES.

Maybe fiction tomorrow.

Now is maybe the sleepings.
By Friday, I'll know for certain, but I might as well mention it now. It's close enough that I doubt I'll jinx it. If I do...I know who to blame: me.

Anyway, it's a VERY short piece (350 words) on three historical female pirates, for this magazine here:

That's right, not only am I editing manga for DrMaster Publications, but I'm also about to get paid for a one-page piece in the magazine that prints manga like One-Piece, Naruto, YuYu Hakusho, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and more.

And, to put a fucking cherry on top, after some e-mails with the EiC of Shonen Jump last night, he assigned me another piece, on the basis of the quality of my LadyPirate piece.

I never said I wanted to be a writer; I said that I was a writer, and that I would be published.

Boom-shaka!

b
Who hearts all of you, and is ready for his goddamned close-up
