benchiladaJames slurs his words when he’s drunk. He’s also deaf, so watching him sign after a pint of tequila is like watching a spastic juggle an invisible dog.
He’s drinking because she’s left him again. She woke him up to tell him she was leaving, by which I mean she stapled a “Dear John” letter to his naked chest at five in the morning. He always treated her so well, too.
I’d like to say that I’m sorry she’s leaving, but it’s not true. I’d like to say she’s got chronic colitis. I’d like to say she’s wearing her insides on the outside.
This is the third time she’s left him. The first time, she said she didn’t love him anymore. The second, she loved him too much. This time, the letter simply said that the Japanese word for cold water – mizu – is completely different from the word for hot water – o-yu.
None of this, however, was the real reason he was drinking.
He was drinking because she never lied, and because the note’s postscript read, “I’ll be back, you fucker.”
