     When I was maybe twelve, I heard a cassette of his. As I listened, I thought to myself "Holy shit! I didn't know comedians were allowed to use those fucking words!" Then I shut down that inner monologue and started listening to some amazing stuff.
     He wasn't swearing because he was an adult and adults can swear, he was doing it to make the funny even more funny.
     He was my first living proof that every person who had ever told me that "Using swear words is a sign of limited vocabulary" was a daft fucking cunt.

That monologue is like manna from heaven for a Tourette's-ridden OCD motherfucker like me.

Son of a fuck.

Stan Winston died.

I idolized that man for a goodly portion of my life.

He was a latter-day Ray Harryhausen, and that ain't no mean feat.

Now to decide which of his movies to watch tonight.

As if 2008, and May in particular, weren't horrible enough for me, my dad just called to let me know that my grandmother, Thelma Louise Stone, nee Jones, died quietly this morning. She was 89 and had been very ill--not the kind of ill that you get better from--so I know that it was really the best thing. Knowledge like that doesn't really make things suck any less, though.

She and I had some differences, but I really did love her so very much.

Sydney Pollack is gone.

For all of the million billion things he wrote, directed, or produced, I know which one is my favorite...indeed, one of my favorite films period. I think I've seen it a dozen times with my mother.

And such a strange trailer...
